Knicks News: Obi Toppin rejoins MSG, and an insider alerts NY about Julius Randle’s injury

Fans of the New York Knicks were relieved to learn on Monday that Julius Randle would likely miss weeks rather than months, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Ian Begley of SNY confirmed that sentiment when he revealed that the team hopes Randle can forego surgery.

While those are undoubtedly positive updates, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst came in with a reminder that just because Randle could play again this season, it doesn’t mean he’ll return to his dominant form. A shoulder injury isn’t something easy to bounce back from. Even though Randle could avoid in-season surgery, offseason surgery could be a real possibility. Hopefully, he won’t reaggravate or worsen the injury.

The organization is taking Randle’s recuperation seriously, or it ought to. While a deep postseason run is undoubtedly the Knicks’ objective, Randle’s durability is crucial. Regretfully, it seems unlikely that he will recover fully in time for the playoffs. After spraining his ankle against Miami and exacerbating the ailment during the first-round series against Cleveland, Randle had trouble in the postseason the previous year.

Nevertheless, it’s encouraging that Randle’s condition didn’t become apparent right away and he wouldn’t have to miss the rest of 2023–2024 due to an MRI and more tests.

In other Knicks news, Obi Toppin will make his Garden debut on Thursday following his July trade. After losing to the Celtics 116-113, Toppin and the Pacers are now fourth in the East, four games behind the third-place Knicks.
