LATEST: Can Texans Sign Bengals’ All-Star Wide Receiver?

This offseason, the Houston Texans will have a lot of options for improving. Whether via free agency or the NFL Draft, the Texans are well-positioned to create a significant impression in the upcoming months. Increasing the arsenal of rising rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud is one way they could do it. It so happens that there should be no shortage of possibilities when it comes to free agents, one of whom is Tee Higgins, the receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals. Furthermore, The 33rd Team thinks Higgins would fit right in with Bobby Slowik’s offensive scheme.

“No offense became more appealing to potential free agents over the course of the 2023 season than the Houston Texans’,” stated The 33rd Team. “Rookie C.J. Stroud’s development made Houston a destination to watch for pass catchers looking for a new home.”

“Adding Higgins might allow the passing game to open up more. In addition, it would create space for the offense’s next evolution—running the ball when necessary. Where Stroud flourished as a rookie thrower, Higgins already fits in. In throws with 11 or more air yards outside the numbers, Stroud ranked third in terms of EPA per play (1.05).” Despite missing only 12 games due to injury during his previous Bengals season, Higgins caught 42 passes on 76 targets for 656 yards and five touchdowns.

In fact, when it came to receiving yards per game and touchdowns, he was only surpassed by club standout Ja’marr Chase.

Higgins is probably not going to be inexpensive on the open market. Nevertheless, Houston will have sufficient cap space to complete the transfer. And with Higgins catching passes from Stroud and playing with Tank Dell, Nico Collins, Brevin Jordan, and possibly Dalton Schultz, the offense might be able to reach new heights.
