Dayana Yastremska, Emma Raducanu’s opponent, withdrew from the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells after just four games due to injury.

Raducanu appeared to have an abdominal injury in the first set after he had gotten off to a fast start and led 4-0.

She gave the British player the advantage by calling for the physio right away.
Raducanu looked good in the play that could have been, so if the match had gone the entire distance, she might have won nevertheless.

With a beautiful drop shot, she broke Yastremska’s serve in the opening game. In her first service game, she shown tenacity by saving a break point.

A solid backhand gave her a second break, but a standard service hold gave her the upper hand.

Yastremska sustained the injury in that match, which Raducanu won, forcing her to withdraw from the match for the second time in two matches with the former US Open champion.

Now, it appears that Raducanu will play Australian Open champion and second seed Aryna Sabalenka in the third round. This match will determine exactly where the 21-year-old stands in her injury-plagued 2023 comeback.

Jodie Burrage, on the other hand, will miss the next “few months” of the season due to wrist surgery.

The second-ranked British woman made the announcement on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself from her hospital bed with her left arm in a sling.

Burrage made the tough decision to have surgery after sustaining the injury two weeks ago before losing in San Diego during the first round of qualifying.

Burrage wrote, “Little update: I don’t know where to start.” “I hit a backhand during my first session in San Diego, and something popped in my left wrist. Several physicians and surgeons advised that surgery was the best course of action.

“It was difficult to decide to have my fourth surgery, but I had to understand that it would take time.

“But I’m grinning because the healing process can begin and everything went smoothly yesterday, even if I was high on narcotics.
“I know I have people around me who will support me through it, but it won’t be easy. I appreciate your continued support, and I hope to see you in a few months.

For Burrage, who was hindered by persistent ankle issues prior to making his debut in the top 100 last year, this is a difficult moment.

The 24-year-old, who is presently ranked 86th—just one spot behind her career high—will now fall in the rankings and probably miss the grass-court season, where she advanced to the Nottingham WTA Tour final the previous year.
