This victory for Zverev served as redemption after De Minaur had bested him in their previous encounter at the United Cup last January, winning 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Notably, De Minaur suffered his first loss in eight matches after successfully defending his title in Acapulco earlier this month.

The match started with both players holding serve strongly, with no break points in the first four games. However, De Minaur managed to break Zverev in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead. Zverev responded by breaking back in the 10th game to level the set at 5-5. Despite De Minaur breaking again to lead 6-5, Zverev fought back to take the set 7-5.

In the second set, both players traded breaks early on before Zverev gained momentum, breaking De Minaur once more to take a commanding 5-2 lead. Zverev ultimately closed out the set 6-2 to force a decider.

The third set saw Zverev save a break point in the first game before eventually breaking De Minaur in the sixth game to go up 5-2. Despite De Minaur’s efforts, Zverev held his nerve to serve out the match and secure victory on his second match point.

Zverev’s next challenge will be against Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals, who defeated Fabian Maroszan 6-3, 6-3 to reach this stage. Reflecting on his performance, Zverev expressed satisfaction with his ability to adapt to the challenging conditions, stating, “I don’t remember having a better match in wind than I did today. When you are down a set and a break, you have to figure it out if you are going to continue or you are going to be off the court in 20 minutes. I had to play differently from both sides and I managed it well today.”
