Anthony Davis expressed dissatisfaction with the defensive strategies devised by Darvin Ham for the Kings versus Lakers game.

In their recent matchup against the Sacramento Kings, the Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 120-130 defeat, causing them to slip to the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference. Malik Monk and De’Aaron Fox combined for a staggering 70 points during the game, prompting Anthony Davis to express his dissatisfaction with Darvin Ham’s defensive preparations for that specific matchup.

Davis remarked, “Some of the defensive schemes we implemented allowed De’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk to penetrate freely, dominating the paint. If I attempted to help, it left Sabonis wide open, and they capitalized on our defensive vulnerabilities.

Following the game, Darvin Ham discussed the Lakers’ defensive strategy against Fox and Monk, admitting its ineffectiveness. He explained, “Our plan was to force Fox to his right hand and Monk to his left. However, we failed to execute that effectively during the game. Both players are formidable because they excel in making challenging shots. Additionally, when we managed to force a miss, Sabonis made significant contributions.”

Despite Davis’s efforts to limit Sabonis offensively, he struggled on the offensive end, scoring just 14 points and being out-rebounded by Domantas Sabonis 11 to 20. This imbalance in defensive focus allowed Fox and Monk to exploit the Lakers’ perimeter defense and attack the rim with ease.

Davis’s defensive prowess has been instrumental in the Lakers’ success, particularly during their impressive second-half run last season. However, against the Kings, the Lakers’ defensive strategy faltered, especially after Davis encountered foul trouble early in the game, as noted by LeBron James.

The Lakers squandered a significant 17-point lead early in the game, with the Kings capitalizing on their adjustments and outscoring the Lakers by 24 points in the second quarter. Davis was put in a challenging defensive position due to the lack of an effective game plan to contain Fox and Monk.

Moving forward, the Lakers cannot afford such tactical lapses, especially with challenging matchups like the one against the Milwaukee Bucks looming ahead.
