LATEST NEWS: Brevin Jordan of the Texans is the 2024 breakout candidate.

This season, the Houston Texans exceeded all expectations, mostly because of some amazing breakout performances from players all throughout the roster.

Texans first-year coach DeMeco Ryans and company got the most out of their players, including Nico Collins, Blake Cashman, and a host of others. That enabled Houston, a team that had only won 11 games in the previous three seasons, to tie that mark in a single season (including the postseason) and secure one of the league’s finest futures.

Brevin Jordan, a tight end, is the player that Pro Football Focus believes has the potential to take the next step. Going into the upcoming season, the Texans now have the task of going from good to great, which is arguably harder than climbing out of the basement. They will definitely need some more breakout performances to accomplish that task.

“Jordan didn’t get a ton of opportunities this season, but when he did, he was able to step up and post some inspiring numbers, including 1.89 yards per route run, which was tied for the sixth-most among tight ends who had run at least 150 routes (including through Divisional round),” stated PFF. “Jordan earned the fourth-highest receiving grade on the team, ahead of Dalton Schultz — a pending free agent — and could find himself in a larger role in 2024.”

For the most part, Jordan’s career has been overshadowed by other pass-catchers. The Miami product has 51 receptions for 525 yards and three scores through his first three seasons.

Nevertheless, there are many reasons to think he’ll make a breakthrough in 2024. According to PFF, if Schultz were to leave, Jordan would move up to the top of the tight end depth chart, which would undoubtedly result in more relevant snaps.

On top of that, Jordan had arguably the Texans’ best offensive play of the postseason, taking a short pass from C.J. Stroud 76 yards to the house.

If that play is a taste of what’s to come, then Jordan may truly be in for a breakout season in a few months.
