Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion, defeated Felix Auger Aliassime 6-2 6-3 to increase his winning run in Indian Wells to eight games. Alcaraz is still trying to make it to the Indian Wells semifinals for the third year in a row.

Although Auger Aliassime is still 3-2 in his five games with Alcaraz, the Spaniard has won their last two meetings in straight sets in back-to-back Indian Wells tournaments.
Alcaraz built up a 6-2 2-0 advantage by winning seven games after falling behind 1-2. The 2022 Wimbledon champion led 5-2 after taking a double break in the fifth and seventh games. However, in the eighth game, he faced a break point when he attempted to finish the opening set. Alcaraz won the match on his opening set point at deuce, as Auger Aliassime was unable to convert his lone break point in the contest.

In the opening game of the second set, Alcaraz broke the record and maintained his serve in the second game to take a 2-0 lead. In the fifth game, Auger Aliassime held serve for a 2-3 lead after saving two break points. However, Alcaraz closed off the second set 6-3 with a double break at game point fifteen in the ninth game.

Alcaraz defeated Auger Aliassime’s opening serve by winning 46% of the points.

“I believe that he did not score very many points from his serves. I believe he is a slave to his serve. Playing the point, I made practically all of the returns. I thought that I could outplay him from the baseline, scoring some excellent points, and I believe everything went fine. I made fewer mistakes and played aggressively. For me, it was practically a perfect fit,” Alcaraz remarked.
