John Mousinho has marked the upcoming trip to Peterborough as the desired debut for Lee Evans in Portsmouth’s push for promotion. The manager has outlined the training plan intended to prepare Evans, who recently joined the team until the end of the season after departing Ipswich in February, to fortify the midfield, which is currently lacking depth.

Evans, 29, has been sidelined since undergoing knee surgery last October but has now fully participated in training sessions at Portsmouth’s base in Hilsea. The objective is to intensify his progress in the coming days, aiming for a significant boost, ideally for the match at London Road next weekend.

Mousinho stated, “Lee trained with us last Friday and Saturday, had a full session on Monday, a modified session on Tuesday, followed by full sessions on Wednesday, Friday, and over the weekend.”

He continued, “The Burton game will likely come too soon for him, but we plan to maximize his training sessions on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week to expose him to larger pitches and get him as close to match pace as possible.”

The aspiration for Portsmouth is that Evans, with his experience and skill, can invigorate their promotion campaign at a crucial juncture. Mousinho emphasized the value of Evans’ veteran presence and expertise during the crucial phase of the season, expressing confidence in his ability to seamlessly integrate into the team and make a meaningful impact.
