Holger Rune delivered a stunning performance at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, saving two match points to defeat Grigor Dimitrov in a gripping encounter that lasted three and a half hours.

In a closely contested first set, both players engaged in intense rallies, with three games going into multiple deuces. Rune managed to break Dimitrov’s serve in the seventh game, taking a 4-3 lead. Serving for the set at 5-3, Rune faced a resurgent Dimitrov who broke back to level the set at 5-5, leading to a tie-break. Despite facing a set point, Rune held his nerve and eventually clinched the tie-break 11-9, securing the first set.

Dimitrov responded strongly, breaking Rune twice to claim the second set 6-3 and force a decider.

The third set saw both players with opportunities to break, but neither could capitalize in the first 11 games. In a dramatic 12th game, Rune faced two match points but showed tremendous resilience to save them both. He then dominated the tie-break, winning it 7-3 to seal the victory.

Rune’s resilience was evident throughout the match, saving seven out of ten break points he faced, including a crucial moment when Dimitrov rallied from 40-0 down to force deuce.

Looking ahead to the quarterfinals, Rune expressed excitement about facing Jannik Sinner, acknowledging Sinner’s status as the favorite. However, Rune is determined to recover and give his best effort in what promises to be another challenging encounter.
