Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones emphasized on Tuesday that the team is fully committed to going “all in” for the 2024 season, disregarding future considerations. Speaking at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Jones conveyed to reporters that the focus for the upcoming year is not on building for the future, but rather on a dedicated effort to achieve success in the immediate season.

Despite the declaration of an all-in approach for the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship in 28 years, the sentiment may be met with skepticism from Cowboys fans who have endured playoff disappointments over the last three decades. The most recent setback occurred in this year’s NFC Wild Card Round, where the Cowboys suffered a 48-32 defeat to the Green Bay Packers at AT&T Stadium. Despite boasting a top-five offense and defense, as well as Pro Bowl recognition for their kicker and punter, the team fell short of expectations.

Jones acknowledged the skepticism among Cowboys fans, understanding that trust and faith will only be restored when the team achieves success at the highest level. He acknowledged the doubt and stated that it is justified until the team proves itself on the field.

In committing to an all-in strategy for the next season, the Cowboys opted to retain head coach Mike McCarthy, who was under speculation for potential dismissal after the playoff loss. McCarthy, entering the final season of his contract, has compiled a 42-25 record in four seasons with the Cowboys.

Jones defended the decision to stick with McCarthy, citing the team’s progress and the positive aspects of McCarthy’s coaching. While acknowledging shortcomings in advancing in the playoffs, Jones expressed comfort with McCarthy’s tenure and highlighted the team’s resilience. Despite not achieving desired results, Jones asserted confidence in continuing with McCarthy rather than making a change.
