Raheem Morris, who took several of Sean McVay’s assistant coaches with him when he left to become the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, forced the Los Angeles Rams to drastically reorganize their coaching staff. This gave opportunity to new people both inside and outside the organization, and in John Streicher, L.A. may have made their biggest coaching acquisition of the offseason.
Due to his six seasons of service with the Tennessee Titans under head coach Mike Vrabel, Streicher is a well-known NFL player. Vrabel appointed Streicher as his assistant head coach in 2018. Before being elevated to football coordinator before the 2020 season, he served in that capacity for two seasons. After serving in that capacity for three seasons, he was given the opportunity to lead coach a 2021 preseason game after Vrabel was sidelined by COVID-19.
He received another promotion to director of football administration last year. He played the part for one season. Additionally, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reported on Wednesday that Streicher will be joining the Rams under a new title:
Right now, it’s unclear exactly what this function includes. If it is related to game management, though, that might include anything from managing timeouts in circumstances where the game is close to ending to monitoring other situational elements like the play clock, challenges, and more.
The Rams seem to be thinking that this is just a matter of bringing in the player they want and working out a job afterward. Given that they were prepared to give Streicher a new title, it is obvious that they want him to play a big role in the company. It’s a solid addition to the group that should provide McVay with a strong coaching staff in 2024.
Chris Shula: The Rams will stick with their defensive schemes
Chris Shula, who oversaw the team’s linebackers and pass-rush this past season, is the Rams’ first choice to succeed Morris, the new coach of the Falcons.
Shula began working with the Rams in 2017 and has played a number of positions since then. At the age of 29, he started his NFL coaching career in 2015 with the San Diego Chargers as a defensive quality control coach.
Shula stated that the team will employ a defense akin to the one Morris ran the previous season as he gets ready for his new role.
Shula predicted that they would employ “a lot of the same structures, the same 3–4 structure and some of the same core beliefs.” But the players are everything. We will therefore do whatever the players can perform at a high level, allowing them to play confidently and quickly. They can go be the best version of themselves, and we will be able to find solutions to whatever the offensive brings.
