One former FAMU assistant coach was lost by the LA Rams, but another was recently added. According to 247Sports, the Los Angeles Rams want to recruit former FAMU special teams coordinator Chili Davis as a special teams assistant. After joining Kansas State from FAMU, where he worked as a special teams coordinator for one season under Willie Simmons, Davis spent the previous season as Kansas State’s special teams quality coach.

When the Rattlers defeated Bethune-Cookman in the Florida Classic to end the season with a 9-2 record, including a 7-1 record in SWAC play, Davis was a key player in that victory. He witnessed punter Chris Faddoul and place kicker Jose Romo-Martinez win HBCU All-America and first team all-conference awards. Faddoul was ranked 11th nationally with a 43.3-yard average, while Romo-Martinez was seventh in the FCS with 1.55 field goals kicked per game. In addition, FAMU’s three blocked kicks placed them 30th in the country.

Chili Davis was born in Chester, Virginia. For the prior two seasons, KJ Black, a former assistant at Florida Atlantic University, served as the assistant quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Rams. The Atlanta Falcons have added him to Raheem Morris’ staff. A few years ago, Tory Woodbury, an HBCU assistant and former Winston-Salem State star, worked for the LA Rams as a special teams coach.
