According to reports, Matt Campbell, the head coach of Iowa State, has appointed a new offensive coordinator and running backs coach, while also reorganizing the titles within the offensive staff at Iowa State on Monday morning.

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg on Monday morning, Iowa State’s head coach Matt Campbell is promoting tight ends coach Taylor Mouser to the position of offensive coordinator. This announcement coincides with several other adjustments within Iowa State’s coaching staff. The Cyclones are bringing in Tyler Roehl as assistant head coach and running backs coach, leading to Jake Waters’ transition from running backs coach to quarterbacks coach.

Furthermore, Noah Pauley, the wide receivers coach, will assume the role of pass game coordinator, while Ryan Clanton, the offensive line coach, will take on the responsibility of run game coordinator, as reported by Rittenberg.

The recent changes in Iowa State’s offensive staff were prompted by the departure of Nate Scheelhaase, the 2023 offensive coordinator, who accepted a role with the Los Angeles Rams earlier this month. With spring football practices approaching and limited options for external hires, Coach Campbell opted for internal promotions and reassignments to maintain continuity within the coaching staff.

Mouser’s elevation to offensive coordinator underscores Campbell’s emphasis on continuity and finding coaches who understand and embody Iowa State’s program identity. Mouser has been with Campbell since their time at Toledo in 2015 and has steadily progressed within the Iowa State program.

Roehl, joining from Tennessee State, brings a wealth of experience, notably from his tenure at North Dakota State, where he contributed to multiple FCS national championships.

Waters’ shift to quarterbacks coach follows his recent appointment as running backs coach and reflects his background as a former Kansas State quarterback.

The additional responsibilities assigned to Pauley and Clanton are expected to support Mouser during his inaugural season as offensive coordinator, leveraging their previous experience in game planning to ease the transition.
