Sheffield Di’Shon Bernard, who played on Wednesday, was crucial to Jamaica’s success as they launched their campaign to earn a spot in the 2026 World Cup.

Although Bernard is still an Owl at this point, his future is uncertain as he approaches the final three weeks of his Hillsborough contract. Naturally, Danny Röhl is eager to keep Bernard in the team.

The 23-year-old will have a hectic month because he and the Reggae Boyz have qualifying matches and the Copa America, in addition to needing to consider his future options in the face of a lot of interest.

However, the possibility of it all isn’t influencing his performance, as he showed on Thursday in Kingston when Jamaica defeated the Dominican Republic 1-0 at Independence Park, with Shamar Nicholson’s goal giving his team the victory.

They will travel to Dominica on Sunday for their second World Cup qualifying match in an attempt to top Group E. On June 23, they will play Mexico in their Copa America opener.
