The days of J.D. Davis in San Francisco may be numbered.

The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed that the third baseman was placed on waivers by the Giants on Saturday.

Davis’ status on the team was in jeopardy when the Giants signed third baseman Matt Chapman to a three-year, $54 million contract last week.

After adding Chapman and slugging Jorge Soler, Davis seemed to have no place in the starting order, according to Heyman, who said that the Giants were having trouble finding a taker in a possible deal for him.

J.D. Davis was put on waivers by the Giants.

The former Mets infielder Davis admitted to reporters that he was unaware of the Chapman deal until he was leaving a screening of “Dune: Part 2.”

The 30-year-old stated a day later that he wasn’t sure what San Francisco had in store for him.

“I’m not sure what the strategy is,” the San Francisco Chronicle said. “Moreover, I want to avoid putting my foot in my mouth.”

Despite having a rough 2022 (.238/.324/.359 slash line in 66 games), Davis spent four years in New York and put up an.815 OPS before being traded to San Francisco as part of a four-player transaction for Darin Ruf.
He was a hit right away with the Giants, going on to smash eight home runs and 16 other extra-base hits in the last 49 games of 2022.

When Davis returned to Citi Field last year, he pointed to a high turnover rate in the front office and in the manager position as reasons for his New York experience not going as expected.

J.D. Davis joined the Giants in a trade from the Mets in 2022.

Davis claimed, “It wasn’t just me; there were a lot of guys in the clubhouse that felt like they were in survival mode. There were so many moving parts and so much instability.”

He returned to earth last year in his first full season with the Giants, finishing barely above league average (103 OPS+).

Heyman also mentioned that Davis may make sense for the Blue Jays, Chapman’s former team.
