The Green Bay Packers are anticipated to have 11 selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. Identified needs for the team include running back, safety, cornerback, and offensive line positions. General manager Brian Gutekunst has been lauded for his talent acquisition via the NFL Draft in recent years, positioning the Packers as contenders.

In a recent seven-round mock draft by Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, he predicts the Packers will select only one running back, Marshawn Lloyd from USC, in the fourth round with the 126th overall pick. The rationale behind this selection is the potential departure of AJ Dillon and the need for a backup to Aaron Jones. Schneidman highlights Lloyd’s promising performance at USC, citing his rushing and receiving abilities as assets for the Packers.

However, the Packers may find themselves in need of more than one running back depending on contractual negotiations with Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon’s impending free agency. Undrafted free agent Emanuel Wilson’s readiness for an expanded role remains uncertain. As a result, drafting multiple running backs in the 2024 NFL Draft could be a necessity for Green Bay.

Marshawn Lloyd is viewed as a solid option for the Packers due to his skills in blitz pickup, power running, and receiving capabilities. Despite some weaknesses such as indecisiveness at the line of scrimmage, Lloyd could serve as a valuable addition to the Packers’ backfield, especially if Aaron Jones returns for the upcoming season.

In conclusion, Marshawn Lloyd presents a potential solution for the Packers’ running back needs in the draft, but the team may need to explore additional options depending on the outcome of contract negotiations and the readiness of current roster players.
