LATEST NEWS: Wisconsin Football Is Trying One Last Time With An In-State Prospect

The coaching staff at Wisconsin, led by Luke Fickell, is probably about to lose a crucial in-state recruiting battle.

The competition for four-star offensive tackle Owen Strebig from Catholic Memorial High School is now underway. The Wisconsin Badgers, Notre Dame, USC Miami, and Florida State are among the finalists that Strebig will select from on February 8th, as he previously disclosed.

Following an unofficial visit, three recruiting experts from 247Sports have all set crystal ball predictions with a confidence level of “6” for the 6-foot-8, 300-pound lineman to end up at Notre Dame.

But the Wisconsin football coaching staff isn’t throwing in the towel on one of their top recruiting targets just yet.

Wisconsin Football Coaches Visit the Catholic Memorial

Wisconsin football head coach Luke Fickell and assistant coach AJ Blazek were at Catholic Memorial High School to visit Owen Strebig, according to a post made on X by Badgerblitz.com writer Jon McNamara.

Strebig is ranked as the top player in Wisconsin, the 124th prospect nationally, and the 12th offensive tackler.

While it is well known that Strebig has a history of being a Notre Dame lean, the Wisconsin Badgers staff is making every attempt to retain the state’s top recruit on campus.

Though it’s unlikely that they can convince him otherwise at this stage, the staff may have felt that they had more time after Strebig’s recent junior day visit to Madison, during which he was able to meet with coach Blazek.

The challenge for Wisconsin football is that Joe Rudolph, who coaches the offensive line at Notre Dame, has had several years to cultivate a rapport with Strebig in addition to pitching a fantastic program.

In the final moments, let’s see if the Wisconsin Badgers coaches can make a difference.
