With the confirmation of Dan Quinn as the Washington Commanders’ new head coach, all 32 NFL positions are officially filled.

Quinn, who became the 31st head coach in the history of the team, departed his role as defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys to accept the top job in Washington.

Furthermore, his decision to join the Commanders is bad news for unemployed players like Mike Vrabel, Pete Carroll, and Bill Belichick, as there are no longer any open positions.

“I am overjoyed to have the chance to lead such a legendary team and fan base as the next head coach,” Quinn remarked. We are thrilled to be a part of the beginning of a new chapter in Washington Commanders football history, led by Josh Harris, the ownership group, and Adam Peters. The organization has an amazing vision, and I’m thrilled to be involved in the next phase of its development.

For the previous three seasons, I would like to express my gratitude to Coach Mike McCarthy, Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, and the whole Dallas Cowboys organization. In a very short period of time, the coaching staff, players, and everyone else in the organization became family.

“We have a big task ahead of us, but Adam, the ownership group, and I are working together to make sure we consistently compete for Super Bowls every year.”

Quinn, who has been the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator since 2021, will now face his old team twice in the NFC East next season.

In 2017, he led the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl during his tenure as head coach.

However, they lost 32-28 to Tom Brady’s New England Patriots in Houston after blowing the biggest lead in Super Bowl history, 28-3.

After the Seahawks chose Baltimore defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald and Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who was regarded as a top possibility, informed teams on Tuesday that he was sticking in Detroit, Quinn was selected by Washington.

After four disappointing years under Ron Rivera’s leadership, the organization has a much-needed new approach under controlling owner Josh Harris, new general manager and head of football operations Adam Peters, and Quinn.

“It was our goal going into this offseason to appoint outstanding candidates to lead the next phase of Commanders football, and I think we succeeded in both cases—first with Adam Peters and now with the addition of the well-respected Dan Quinn as head coach,” stated Harris.

Dan has built strong, explosive, and dynamic teams that compete fiercely, earning him the rightful reputation as one of the NFL’s best defensive strategists. Above all, though, he is a fantastic leader who pulls out the best in his staff, coaches, and players.

Everyone we met with during this process confirmed it to us, and when we talked with Dan about our common goal of creating a successful franchise, it was reinforced.

In our endeavor to provide our supporters with a team capable of winning a title, we’ve made a significant advancement with the appointment of such a reputable, successful, and driven leader as head coach. I’m thrilled to have Dan and his wife Stacey join the Commanders family and am very enthused about our future.
