According to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News, Mike Zimmer is considering applying for the position of defensive coordinator with the Cowboys.

In his final season as the head coach of the Vikings in 2021, Zimmer, then 67, made his NFL coaching debut. From 2014 to 21, he played for the Minnesota Vikings, where he finished 72-56-1, had three trips to the postseason, and saw one NFC Championship Game.

However, Zimmer rose to prominence with the Cowboys.

He began working with Barry Switzer as an assistant coach of the nickel defense when he first joined the organization in 1994. In 1995, he was elevated to defensive backs coach, a position he held until the Cowboys moved him to defensive coordinator in 2000.

He spent 13 years as a Cowboys assistant, working under four different head coaches.

Afterwards, he served as the Bengals’ (2008–13) and Falcons’ (2007) defensive coordinator.

Zimmer has aided Deion Sanders, whom he coached with the Cowboys, over the last two seasons.
