Not even the 7-foot-4 international marvel Victor Wembanyama, affectionately known as a “Alien,” is immune to the well-known allergies of South Texas.

Instead of meeting with the media at the customary post-game availability table, the generational prospect met with them in front of his locker after putting up 19 points and pulling down 14 rebounds in a 117-101 defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Reporters gathered around Wemby, who had his right foot in an ice tub and was dressed in a hoodie—something he never does in the press conference room—with his clothes covering his mouth.

The first choice in the draft this past summer was asked by ClutchPoints if he felt alright.

“Yeah, it’s been like that for, like, two days. It usually goes away in a day or two, but I don’t think my body is acclimated to this level of exertion. It affects my immune system as well. However, I’m alright,” a swollen Wembanyama replied.

Wembanyama, the French sensation, seems to have reached his peak with Mountain Cedar season, even though no NBA team could be prepared for the kind of player he may develop into.

Known to be one of the most noticeable allergens in the area, the cedar count has been particularly high in the past few days, coinciding with Wemby’s physical difficulties. No illnesses were improved by playing the seventh game in the previous eleven days.

When asked if he had ever played as many games in as many nights professionally, the Spurs season’s top scorer said, “No, I don’t think so but, as a kid, we used to play three games a day and it didn’t matter, so it’s the same.”

“I believe he just wrapped up playing more games in half the time compared to the entire previous year.” That is conveying a message to you. Thus, he’s managed it fairly well, said Gregg Popovich, head coach of the Spurs.

The Spurs suffered their second defeat in as many nights against Cleveland. Wembanyama recorded 16 points, 14 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks in his first “allergy game” on Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans, which ended in a 114-113 defeat.

Victor Wembanyama will benefit from a vacation from the allergens in South Texas.
Wemby will spend nearly the whole month away from the allergies in South Texas as the Silver and Black prepare to go on their yearly rodeo road trip.

It has a distinct rhythm, almost. It’s not tougher per se, but you have to pay attention to other things. Regarding life on the road with the NBA, Wembanyama went on, “You’re not at home, you’re in your hotel room waiting to go to a game.”

“You have to concentrate solely on the [game] on game day. Everything is taken care of for you by the hotel; your clothes are dropped off in front of your door and the supper is ready. All you have to do is take them. Practice is done, you return, and you can take a nap. From here, the schedule is truly different. You can concentrate more on fundamentals. It’s not the same, and you visit a lot of cities when you travel. Every time is a new learning experience.

The Spurs will depart early this week for a series of games that won’t see them return to the Frost Bank Center until February 29th, when you include in the All-Star break.

Before they left on Tuesday, ClutchPoints questioned Wemby about whether he had enough allergy shots.
