LATEST NEWS:Victor Wembanyama’s injury return schedule with the Spurs practically absurd

Lately, the San Antonio Spurs have improved significantly. Although their current record of 10-38 is far from good or even average, they have played considerably better in the last few games. They even triumphed over the Minnesota Timberwolves, who at the time and to this day lead the conference.
As the team is 10-38 and five games from the bottom of the conference, it’s understandable that Spurs supporters are a little irritated about a number of issues. However, some of the most vocal complaints have been about the ultra-rookie Victor Wembanyama’s minutes cap.
It makes sense to gradually reintroduce big minutes for a star player each night. Wembanyama’s lack of an NBA-caliber body at the start of the season was a point of criticism. It is also not justified to push him out there when he isn’t fully healthy because the Spurs were not predicted to compete this season.
The problem with all of this is that Wembanyama is an intense competitor and player. Whether he has an ankle ailment or not, he obviously wants to win and play as much as possible.
Gregg Popovich, the head coach, has an idea. He’s had one for a while now, and—understatement of the century—he’s been rather good at carrying out his ideas over time. The larger picture is more complex than what we can now see. Though I’m positive of it, it’s a little unclear how he handled Wembanyama during his ankle ailment.
Coach Pop seems to be gradually easing the minutes restriction as of late. Wembanyama participated in both of the back-to-back victories over Portland and Minnesota.
Wembanyama is averaging 28.6 minutes per game this season, which is little more than half of a 48-minute game. He is averaging a double-double of 20.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game throughout that span. Victor leads the NBA in blocks per game with 3.2 and assists per game, respectively.
He shared the January Rookie of the Month award with Charlotte’s Brandon Miller, and when he’s on the court, he’s changed the game for the silver and black.
Wembanyama is a different player than anyone in the NBA has ever seen before- 7’4” with the abilities of a guard and the defensive acumen of some of the greatest in the game. This likely has provided some confusion for Coach Pop on how exactly to deploy Wemby.
The league needs to fully release Victor Wembanyama.
Spurs fans are aware of his physical limitations, but some argue he is overly thin and may not be prepared for the rigors of a complete NBA season. When Wembanyama takes the court, Spurs supporters are astute enough to recognize what kind of game-changing player he is. He is an eraser on defense and a nightmare in matchups.
Twenty-year-old Victor is a young man with boundless vitality. The Spurs seem to be settling into a consistent rotation, so now is the perfect moment to give their impact players more minutes while also giving the bench players some situational time.
Wembanyama needs to play to gain more experience and to adapt his body to the rigors of an NBA season at the center position.
Let’s just make sure we give Coach Pop the benefit of the doubt that he’s got a plan, and that the future is bright in San Antonio.
