The management of the Seattle Seahawks has changed. or a new coach, at any rate. Naturally, general manager John Schneider now has complete authority over the squad after Seattle fired head coach Pete Carroll and hired Mike Macdonald in his place. Does Seattle, however, also want a new quarterback in addition to a new head coach? According to DraftKings Sportsbook, there’s a possibility.

To be more precise, DraftKings has odds on the Chicago Bears dealing for Justin Fields and the sixth-best team in the world acquiring Fields ending up in Seattle. The smart money is on Fields remaining in Chicago, although that looks improbable. And it’s not entirely intended as an insult to Fields.

In the NFL draft of 2024, the Bears are the top pick overall and the ninth overall pick. Chicago had better be fully convinced that Fields will be the team’s starting quarterback going forward; else, the Bears will suffer decades of futility if they miss out on several chances to select a different franchise quarterback. Fields hasn’t proven that he is a quarterback deserving of a postseason spot either.

Justin Fields could be signed by the Seattle Seahawks, but why would they?

Yes, he is a really skilled athlete. There is a reason Peyton Manning was a better quarterback than quarterbacks with greater physical skill—his incredible ability to readjust and perceive what was happening in front of him—than quarterbacks with superior physical capability. He can make throws to any region of the field. Fields hasn’t shown he can do that function any better than C.J. Stroud or Manning.

In addition, Fields’ career quarterback rating is only 82.3, and throughout his first three years, his touchdown to interception ratio was 40:30. In addition, he has never participated in a complete season and has missed four games this year. Although Fields’ raw physical skill might easily captivate one, there is no indication that he can succeed at the same level as Geno Smith has the past two seasons.

Fields probably wouldn’t be the quarterback for the Seahawks in the future, even though Smith might not be. Seattle should definitely choose a quarterback if they wish to switch up their starting lineup. Smith, however, most likely remains QB1 at least through 2024.
