Until a decision is made, Dak Prescott’s contract extension—or lack thereof—with the Dallas Cowboys will be a topic of discussion this summer.

There have been rumors circulating for the past week that Prescott, should an extension materialize, could fetch up to $60 million year. This is in line with expectations and predictions given the quarterback market and how it has performed in the past.

We have repeatedly stated that, should an extension occur, it is highly likely to occur prior to the start of free agency on March 13th, allowing the team to utilize any salary cap room that is created as a consequence. On that front, we still have a few weeks left, but time is starting to run out.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported on Saturday morning that the player and the club have not yet had any “substantial” discussions. as Bleacher Report transcribed:

There haven’t been “any substantial talks” about a long-term contract between Prescott’s representation and the Cowboys, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who appeared on SportsCenter on Saturday.

“Dak Prescott’s representatives and Dallas haven’t had any meaningful conversations, I was informed,” Fowler stated. “They haven’t talked about numbers, but they could meet next week at the NFL combine to at least start gauging each other’s respective positions.”

This all makes sense because the NFL Combine usually provides a forum for teams and player representatives to discuss issues. Once more, March 13th is approaching, yet it’s not even tomorrow.
