LATEST UPDATE: Examining the 2024 salary cap for the Detroit Lions after free agency

Regarding the payroll cap, the Detroit Lions are in a strong position.

The team’s remaining cap space is just over $27 million after spending in free agency.

The team should spend close to $9 million on the anticipated draft funds, with about $18 million left over.

General manager Brad Holmes often prefers to put money away for a rainy day during the season, so the team may still sign one or two affordable free agents this offseason and avoid using any reserved reserves.

Dead cap obligations totaling $23,054,506 that Detroit must pay in 2024 for a number of players that are no longer with the team.

The front management and Holmes have made smart decisions about signing outside free agents.

These are players you don’t really know,” Holmes clarified. “You see what you see on screen, but that’s the simple, coherent portion, as I’ve told you all. Is a man able to leave the football? Alright. That’s simple. However, you are not truly familiar with them, so you must use extreme caution.”

If the team decides to terminate Cam Sutton’s contract and request cap relief, the legal scenario involving him may result in additional funds being made available.

Here’s how the Lions are currently doing, according Spotrac, in relation to the salary cap.
