LATEST UPDATE: Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool are intrested in Sunderland goalkeeper

Journalist Graeme Bailey claims that “a lot of Premier League clubs” are keeping their eye on Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson this summer.

Although Patterson isn’t playing at his best right now, his quality, age, and homegrown quota eligibility will make him a valuable asset come summer.

Bailey claims that Nottingham Forest is highly interested in the 23-year-old, but they will have competition from Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool, all of whom view Patterson as perfect backup material.

It is unclear if Patterson views himself as a backup, even at a premier team, but Sunderland is unlikely to let him leave easily.

Bailey told Nottingham Forest news, “We know Liverpool are looking around [for a goalkeeper] as well as potential new signings.”

“A lot of Premier League clubs are looking at Anthony Patterson at Sunderland, and I assume he would be much sought after by Forest as well.

“Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are looking at him, he’s homegrown and he’s a very good keeper so keep an eye on him as well.”

With more than four years remaining on his contract, Patterson is clearly the best player at his hometown club of Sunderland.

However, Patterson’s former coach Tony Mowbray has always maintained that he has a bright future in the game.

During the previous season, Mowbray stated, “He’s obviously played in some pretty big football matches for the club and has done exceptionally well and continues to do exceptionally well.”

That truly comes down to his demeanor, the qualities he offers, and his composure. Some goalies constantly hop, shriek, and scream at everyone, like a box of frogs. Then there is a group of goalies who are incredibly composed, cool, and skilled at what they do. Then there are exceptional goalies who are both.

“Anthony is a large, sturdy player who excels at handling crosses and keeping the ball out of his net. As one might anticipate from a rookie goalie, he has areas for improvement; at times, he has to work on his distribution, which is being done.

But he doesn’t possess a lot of what I would consider flaws. It’s incredible to consider what he will be like at thirty, when he still has six or eight years left to play, considering how young and skilled he is currently. Clearly, he has a bright future.”
