LATEST Update on potential retirement from Eagles’ Fletcher Cox

Fletcher Cox, a defensive lineman with the Eagles, has played for the City of Brotherly Love for 12 years, so it makes sense that he would start to receive inquiries about his retirement.

Regarding his future with the Eagles, Cox stated he’s taking things “day by day” on the “Up and Adams Show” during Super Bowl LVIII Radio Row week.

Last season, Cox inked a one-year, $10 million contract.

Cox made a 180-degree swing last season, recording 15 games played, 33 tackles, five sacks, 17 quarterback hits, and two passes defended.

Cox did not make it to the Pro Bowl in 2020 and did not make it this past season, mirroring a Pro Bowl-like season from years earlier in his career. Moreover, Cox hasn’t appeared on an All-Pro list since 2018.

Howie Roseman, general manager, has been getting ready for Cox’s eventual retirement announcement. The Eagles have selected defensive tackles Jordan Davis (2022) and Jalen Carter (2023) in the past two draft classes.

Carter finished second in the NFL Honors’ Defensive Rookie of the Year competition this year.

Despite having a mostly successful career, Cox has declined recently, so it’s possible Philadelphia won’t have him for the 2024 campaign.
