Rangers manager Philippe Clement has provided comprehensive details on the club’s January transfer window activities, addressing a consistent criticism of his management. He faced challenges with an imbalanced squad, particularly in Europa League clashes, due to the initial setup by Michael Beale. New signings Fabio Silva, Mohamed Diomande, and Oscar Cortes further complicate squad decisions, with players like Ridvan Yilmaz also vying for inclusion. The three-change rule in European competitions adds to the complexity, making it uncertain whether all new players will feature in upcoming Europa League matches.

In a press conference ahead of the Livingston clash, Clement expressed his dissatisfaction with the rule but acknowledged its limitations. He highlighted ongoing discussions with players, emphasizing that some he wishes to include will inevitably miss out. While pleased with the overall transfer window outcome, Clement avoided addressing whether he pursued another striker. He commended the team’s hard work, deeming their acquisitions more favorable compared to other clubs. Clement emphasized the importance of achieving results in the upcoming sprint-like four-month period, noting adjustments made for squad balance and the addition of talented young players with future potential.

Regarding Oscar Cortez, Clement acknowledged the player’s talent, youth, and previous experience with Lens in Europe. He mentioned the intense competition and a different playing style but expressed confidence in Cortez’s quality and potential for significant growth if guided correctly. Clement drew parallels with his positive experiences with Colombian players in the past, citing examples like Carlos Bacca and Jose Izquierdo during his tenure as an assistant in Bruges, who secured major transfers to Premier League or Serie A.
