LATEST UPDATE: Sunderland Frustrating Injury report on Jack Clarke news emerges

Published

on

James Copley claims that the winger’s participation against the Swans is uncertain because of an injury.

Although the extent of his fitness problem is unknown, it will be a major setback to the Black Cats’ hopes of making the playoffs.

With 33 Championship appearances, Clarke has contributed 15 goals and 4 assists, making him a vital member of the Wearside team this season (all data courtesy of Fbref).

This season, the forward has also been the focus of transfer rumors, although he has continued to be an important member of the team’s promotion effort.

Later this week, interim head coach Mike Dodds will provide a concrete update on Clarke’s health.

He is reportedly a major doubt for this weekend’s matchup against Swansea, though.

After Michael Beale was fired earlier this week, Dodds assumed leadership of the team for the first time and will be leading them in this game.

This season, he has already overseen three games, including victories over Leeds United and West Brom.

Clarke is the team’s top scorer, with 10 more than the next highest (Jobe Bellingham with five).

The squad would suffer a great deal without him, and it’s unclear how much would be lost.

The fact that he might still be available for this weekend’s match against the Wales team suggests that any injury absence won’t be too long.

Clarke’s absence from the game would be a significant setback for the Black Cats, who are trying to get closer to the top six.

Their hopes of making the playoffs were severely harmed by their two straight losses in their previous games, which also cost Beale his job as head coach.

Sunderland is now tenth in the league, seven points behind Hull City in sixth place.

Perhaps Dodds has what it takes to improve their performance in the near term after winning two of his three games in charge earlier this year as an interim head coach.

The 37-year-old has been assigned to the position for the end of the current campaign, while Beale’s long-term replacement is being sought after.

On February 24, Sunderland and Swansea will play a match at the Stadium of Light. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Losing Clarke is a setback.
When compared to the rest of Sunderland’s attacking alternatives this season, Clarke has been the team’s most notable player.

Supporters will almost be relieved if he misses only one game because a prolonged absence would be disastrous.

His absence would force the team’s other offensive alternatives to step up, as the rest of the club is woefully short on goals.

This has happened at a bad moment for Sunderland as well, since a loss this weekend may effectively push the team out of the top six spots.
