New York City, Syracuse When Syracuse’s Adrian Autry realized he would be facing North Carolina’s formidable inside attack with a weak frontcourt, he pulled out a page from Jim Boeheim’s Guide to Coaching.
For the majority of the season in his first year as Syracuse’s head coach, Autry has played a man-to-man defense. After applying Boeheim’s famed 2-3 zone strategy for 25 years, the Orange changed their defensive philosophy.
