Possible Rams Trade: Chiefs Star Corner Could Be Heading Out?

The Los Angeles Rams’ defense isn’t built to contend for a Super Bowl. That is not a referendum on the coaching staff’s efficacy or a critique of general manager Les Snead’s performance. However, Los Angeles has a lot of work ahead of it. Put another way, teams with poor secondaries that can’t compensate with a potent pass rush may struggle to survive in today’s passing league. Will the Rams be able to make a trade or will they have to resort to cash and NFL Draft picks to address the problem?

The cap has repercussions, and occasionally those repercussions include trading away elite players to preserve the core. In order to win back-to-back championships, the Kansas City Chiefs, who won the Super Bowl, might have to follow that route. It is highly likely that cornerback L’Jarius Sneed will be franchise-tagged, but if an extension cannot be reached, a trade is an option. Los Angeles is one of the teams that ought to be contacting Kansas City, claims Bleacher Report.

Senad and the Rams would be dumb not to consider Sneed if he is available for a Day 2 selection, according to Kristopher Knox. Thanks to rising stars like Puka Nacua, Kyren Williams, and Kobie Turner, LA’s playoff window is now open once more.Enhancing a pass defense that placed 20th in terms of yards allowed in the previous campaign would enable the Rams to make the most of their current window. Furthermore, Sneed will still be a valuable building component long after players like Donald, Stafford, and Kupp are gone. Sneed has become one of the best corners in the game and is likely to receive a large contract extension from Los Angeles. He can support that with his performance as well.

Pro Football Focus placed Sneed 26th out of 80 applicants, placing him well ahead of Ahkello Witherspoon, the Rams’ highest qualifier who was ranked 47th the previous season. He is not the kind of secondary playmaker that Los Angeles has. Only seven cornerbacks have more pass breakups than him with two interceptions. In coverage, he surrendered the fifth-lowest passer rating against. In particular, leading his positional counterparts in penalties (17) raises some serious concerns and may ultimately scare the Rams away. Not many people question his talent to compose plays, though.

Although it’s debatable if Snead should move his first-round pick at all, he hasn’t committed to not doing so. But it would be difficult to not hope that the Chiefs would accept a Sneed deal as picks lose value on the second day of the draft.
