The PAC-12 Conference’s fundamental breakup means that TV networks will need to work quickly to find games to air during their timeslots. This implies that a greater number of weeknight games than normal may be required of the new Big 12.

Big 12, ACC, Big 10, and PAC-12 games have been shown on Thursday and Friday nights for years by both ESPN and Fox Sports 1. Will there be even more Big 12 games played on weeknights than usual now that the Big 12 has largely absorbed the PAC-12?

Texas Tech’s only hope must be that the league spares the Red Raiders a weeknight game for at least a year. That’s because Tech defeated TCU in a dramatic 35-28 victory in Lubbock on Thursday night of last season.

The conference has not requested that institutions play back-to-back season games on weeknights in previous years. Nobody knows, though, if that will continue to be the rule in light of the additional teams and television slots available.

At the very least, let’s hope that Tech’s game on Thursday or Friday night is a road game. This is due to the fact that Tech has more difficult home games than most other schools because a significant portion of its season ticket holders live several hours away.

Furthermore, considering how many people in the area watch high school games on Friday nights of the week, a home game on the South Plains would be awful. Therefore, it would be ideal for the school to completely forgo a midweek game.

So let’s hope that this season, Tech will only play on Saturdays. That would only be appropriate considering that the university was forced to host a rivalry game on a Thursday night by the conference last autumn. Of course, fairness isn’t always the first priority when it comes to the Big 12.
