It’s possible that the Dallas Cowboys are searching Jerry Jones’ network for Dan Quinn’s replacement as defensive coordinator.

Quinn was signed by an NFC East division foe after serving as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator for the previous three seasons. According to David Moore of Dallas Morning News, former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is reportedly “interested in the job,” which is the defensive coordinator position that is now open.

Before being fired after the 2021 season, Zimmer led the Vikings for eight seasons as head coach. His record as a head coach was 72-56-1 over his tenure. In 2017, the Vikings had their best season under Zimmer, going 13-3 and reaching the NFC Championship Game.

Notably, Zimmer oversaw the Cowboys’ defense from 2000 to 2006. After serving as a defensive backs coach for multiple seasons in what turned out to be a head coach rotation for Dallas at the time, he was promoted to Washington. When he initially started working for Barry Switzer, he was an assistant defensive coach.

In total, Zimmer he served under four different Cowboys head coaches — Switzer, Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, and Bill Parcells.

However, Zimmer isn’t the only former head coach that the Cowboys are looking at to potentially fill the void left by Quinn. Dallas is reportedly considering the man Quinn replaced in Washington.
