The rookie hasn’t touched the ball much in the fourth quarter of the last several games.

The San Antonio Spurs lost six straight games on Thursday night, and Victor Wembanyama had a rare off night in Orlando. For a player his size, the rookie’s performance was unexpected as he only managed to collect one rebound. The Spurs’ inability to properly use Wembanyama in the fourth quarter over the past five games has prompted worries, even though the low rebounding stats alone might not be concerning.

The rookie has only attempted 1.8 field goals on average during this difficult run. Notably, the rookie’s minute restriction has been relaxed, so he isn’t short on playing time. Wembanyama has been averaging only 6 minutes and 21 seconds in the fourth quarter, in spite of this. That begs the question: Why aren’t the Spurs offering him more chances?

I’m not sure how to solve this, but it looks like a serious problem. As the team’s top offensive option, Wembanyama stands out for setting up mismatches and assisting in easy baskets. It seems sense to make the most of his involvement considering his recent performance. Even with Tre Jones, San Antonio lacks a natural point guard, so the team needs to look for other ways to engage Victor Wembanyama.
The Frenchman has to receive more touches in the latter quarter of games in order to break this losing skid. Increasing his engagement might be essential to changing the team’s trajectory and achieving much-needed wins.

The Frenchman should be accompanied by Devin Vassell in the future for the Spurs. His performance this year has impressed me, and his attitude is admirable.

Trae Young’s future is still being speculated about, which inevitably brings up San Antonio. It’s unclear if any of these rumors are true, but talk about them will probably continue until the summer.

Wemby displayed his remarkable length on Thursday, as seen in this picture.

Victor looks to have very fluid three-point shooting form, even with his lackluster performance in Orlando.
