Similar to numerous other college football conferences this year, the Big 12 is undergoing changes as it welcomes new teams. The Arizona State Sun Devils, Arizona Wildcats, Utah Utes, and Colorado Buffaloes are transitioning from the remnants of the Pac-12. Meanwhile, the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners are departing to join the SEC.

The Buffaloes are surrounded by stars like Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, with head coach Deion Sanders also attracting significant attention. RJ Young of Fox Sports has suggested that Travis Hunter could follow in the footsteps of Michigan Wolverines legend Charles Woodson, potentially becoming the next two-way player to win the Heisman.

“Travis Hunter seems like a strong contender for the Heisman, particularly if Colorado performs well this season,” Young commented. “He starts this season alongside two other players, including Ewers, on the cover of EA Sports’ ‘College Football 25.’ With his immense popularity in the sport, he could very well be the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.”

Young speculates that voters might give more attention to the Colorado quarterback and wonders if they will value a versatile player like Hunter in 2024.

“…While I acknowledge that Shedeur Sanders might receive equal or even more praise for his performance if he lives up to expectations in 2024, I’m curious to see if Heisman voters still appreciate a true two-way player like they did with Charles Woodson in the 20th century,” Young noted.

Colorado kicks off the 2024 season against the North Dakota State Bison on Aug. 29, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
