Mulkey and company are vying for Olsen, who is still the most sought-after player in the portal.

This month, Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers continue their hectic offseason as they navigate the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Mulkey and company want to identify a real point guard to guide the team in 2024–25 while also adding depth to an already outstanding group.

While LSU has been in contact with a number of well-known transfer guards, All-American honorable mention Lucy Olsen is the most well-known of them all.

The 2023–24 season saw Olsen, a 5-foot-9 junior guard from Pennsylvania, average 23.3 points, which was second only to Caitlin Clark of Iowa (31.6) and JuJu Watkins of USC (27.1).

The third-best scorer in the country finished the previous season as one of the Big East Conference’s best players, winning first-team unanimous All-Big East and Big East Most Improved Player awards.

She is now seeking representation from multiple programs as a free agent.

LSU is putting up a fight in this one alongside a few other formidable institutions, like Stanford and Iowa, among others, sources confirmed to LSU Country on Thursday.

Although LSU will undoubtedly fight for the title of best player in the portal, Iowa is still a squad to beat in this match.

After losing two point guards in Hailey Van Lith and Angelica Velez to the NCAA Transfer Portal in the previous week, the Tigers are now focusing solely on the free agent market to find a guard.

Through the portal, LSU was able to sign forward Jersey Wolfenbarger, an Arkansas transfer and former five-star prospect. The Tigers want to add two or three more players throughout the session.

Ruby Whitehorn, a transfer guard from Clemson, will visit LSU this month, an insider told LSU Country. It was also intended to bring Michigan State transfer guard DeeDee Hagemann to Baton Rouge for a visit; however, it seems that Ole Miss is gaining ground on Hagemann, thus LSU might not be in the running for her services.

With Olsen, Whitehorn, and several other schools still in contact with LSU, the search for a point guard through the portal is now moving full steam ahead.
