Kyrie Irving’s exceptional second-half performance propelled the Dallas Mavericks to a 114-101 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, securing their place in the NBA Western Conference playoff semi-finals. Luka Doncic also showcased his prowess, contributing 28 points, 13 assists, and seven rebounds throughout the game. Despite a tied score of 52-52 at halftime, Irving’s dominant play in the latter two quarters turned the tide in favor of the Mavericks.
Reflecting on his performance, Irving mentioned feeling physically drained in the first half due to intense defensive play, but credited his teammates for rallying behind him. The win marked a significant achievement for the Mavericks, who had faced playoff defeats against the Clippers in the previous two seasons.
With this victory, the Mavericks advanced to face the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder in the semi-final series starting on Tuesday, May 7th. Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference, the Orlando Magic defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 103-96, forcing a decisive seventh game in their series.
Despite a remarkable 50-point effort from Donovan Mitchell for the Cavaliers, supported by strong performances from Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, the Magic managed to even the series. The outcome of the deciding game, scheduled for Sunday in Cleveland, will determine the opponent for the Boston Celtics in the next round.
Both teams are gearing up for the crucial matchup, with Cavaliers coach JB Bickerstaff expressing confidence in his team’s ability to perform well at home.
