The Washington Commanders selected wide receiver in the third round after securing the services of Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels, their top quarterback. Luke McCaffrey was selected as the 100th pick in the third round, and the Commanders secured the pair’s future with the team with this acquisition.

Their dynamic relationship will be highly sought after with the prospects in place. Nevertheless, McCaffrey claims that the two have already begun strengthening their relationship, and after the rookie minicamp, the wide receiver and quarterback both mentioned how well their relationship was going.

According to Pro Football Talk, McCaffrey mentioned, “He’s one heck of a quarterback and he’s a lot of fun to play with from a personality standpoint, so I’ve had a blast. People who love football are going to get along, and he’s someone who loves football and I consider myself someone who loves football.”

Before changing his position to wide receiver, McCaffrey also played as a quarterback for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Rice Owls. So, his background in the position has helped to build a connection with Daniels. He further states, “It helps a lot. It’s a position that’s hard to understand unless you’ve played it. The biggest thing I’ve noticed is the communication aspect. You speak the same language, you understand, and that’s something going into rookie minicamp you try and get a head start on.”

McCaffrey in 2023 was named to First-team All-AAC. His developing partnership with the quarterback will prove beneficial for the Commanders once the next season begins.
