On Tuesday, Trystan Haynes, a defensive back from Carl Albert High School in Oklahoma, announced his commitment to the University of Oklahoma. This commitment adds to the recent success of the Oklahoma recruiting team, led by Brent Venables, who have secured six commitments from high school players since April 6. Haynes, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 175 pounds, is ranked as the No. 119 overall prospect and the No. 12 cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class by 247Sports. Despite offers from Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M, Miami, and Notre Dame, the 4-star prospect opted for OU.

Although he plays both wide receiver and cornerback for his high school team, Haynes will focus on the defensive backfield at the collegiate level. With his combination of speed and height, he excels at challenging passes in the air against larger receivers and keeping up with faster wideouts down the field.

In 2023, Haynes secured his second consecutive state title with Carl Albert, contributing to their seventh championship in eight years.

Teammates with Trynae Washington and Marcus James in Midwest City, Haynes has a connection with fellow OU commits. Additionally, he played alongside Kevin Sperry and Xavier Robinson in 2023 at Carl Albert before Sperry transferred to Denton Guyer (TX) and Robinson graduated.

Haynes shines on the track alongside Washington, with the pair helping Carl Albert’s 4×200-meter relay team set a school record and qualify for the OSSAA State Track Meet. He’s also a key member of the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relay teams, both of which topped the 5A Regional Track Meet to reach the state championship. In individual events, Haynes clocked a 48.68-second 400-meter dash, earning his fourth gold medal at the state-qualifying meet.

His commitment to Oklahoma makes him the 15th player and third cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class. With Haynes joining the likes of Maliek Hawkins from Emerson (TX) and Courtland Guillory from Klein Oak (TX), Jay Valai now boasts three players with ideal attributes for the position.

Before Haynes’ decision, Oklahoma already boasted the sixth-ranked recruiting class in the nation, according to 247Sports. The recent commitments from Hawkins, Guillory, Marcus Wimberly from Bauxite (AR), Trent Wilson from Dr. Henry Wise (MD), Zane Rowe from Denton Guyer (TX), and now Haynes further solidify their position.
