Matt Peet reveals area where Wigan Warriors can improve as he sends ominous warning to Super League

The 60-6 thumping of Castleford Tigers in the Challenge Cup quarterfinal last weekend left some room for improvement.

In less than thirty minutes, the Warriors had scored 12 tries and destroyed the Tigers, winning 28 to 0.

Peet thinks Wigan, who are in third position, can do a better job of demolishing, especially in the ruck area.

“We will be trying to tighten up some of that because there were a few defensive lapses in our ruck defense where we felt we were a little below standard,” Peet stated.

“To what we are doing, we can add a few layers. Our ruck defense could have been improved in several areas, but the important thing is that we can improve from the beginning.

Peet has hinted in recent weeks that prop Ethan Havard, who was born in Bulgaria, would make a comeback to the starting lineup after suffering a significant hamstring injury.

Peet did clarify that Havard is still a few weeks away, though.

“Ethan is training well, but he has to go through tests to determine whether the two legs are symmetrical. Since the injured limb is not where we want it to be, we are not taking any chances there.

“We’ll give him a couple of weeks to correct himself.”
