Following the Game 5 triumph against Oklahoma City, Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving described the series as “one of the hardest” he’s ever played, citing the intense pace and physicality. Despite his championship experience and Finals appearances, Irving elaborated on why the Thunder presented unique challenges.

“It’s the pace and physicality,” Irving explained. “Last series was physical too, but this one has really tested me physically, mentally, emotionally. I’ve embraced it, focused on what I can control, and prioritized getting my teammates involved early. Defensively, I’m giving maximum effort and trying to make the right offensive plays.”

Irving also acknowledged Luka Doncic’s heightened focus in Game 5, noting Doncic’s decision to minimize complaints to officials and concentrate on basketball. Irving praised Doncic’s shift in energy, emphasizing his contributions on both ends of the court, including rebounding and defensive efforts.

The Thunder’s involvement in aiding the Mavericks acquire Gafford might now be viewed with regret by Oklahoma City.
– Second-year shooting guard Jaden Hardy seems to have supplanted Dante Exum in the Mavericks’ playoff rotation, according to Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News. Despite a modest shooting performance in Game 5, coach Jason Kidd was impressed by Hardy’s overall contribution.
– Coach Kidd hinted at the potential return of injured big man Maxi Kleber if the Mavericks advance to the conference finals. Kleber sustained a shoulder injury in early May and has been undergoing evaluation. He participated in light shooting during a recent practice session.
