Max Verstappen gives a glimpse into his future in latest interview, considering racing outside F1
In December 2023, Max Verstappen told SPORTbible that it would be difficult to defend his Formula 1 title in 2024.
A year later, Verstappen’s prediction was realized in front of our eyes when McLaren driver Lando Norris shoved him all the way.
After going more than three months without winning a race, the Dutchman finally triumphed at the Las Vegas Grand Prix in November, securing his fourth consecutive F1 world championship.
Verstappen, who has won four titles, has cemented his place among the greatest of all time in the sport’s history books.
The 27-year-old will try to match Juan Manuel Fangio’s five-title record next season after tying the record with players like Sebastian Vettel and Alain Prost.
We have grown quite used to Verstappen’s spectacular on-track exploits over the last few seasons, but what exactly drives him to return year after year?
He said: “For sure, having fun out there, working with the people within the team and you just try to do that again and again.
“I think winning a title is of course really rewarding but at the same time, it’s important that you enjoy all the travelling, going to all the races and spending so much time away from home as well.”
Verstappen continued: “At the moment I am enjoying that a lot and hopefully next year we can do it again.”
Verstappen and his partner Kelly Piquet made their first child’s arrival public prior to last month’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
After McLaren and Ferrari defeated Oracle Red Bull Racing in the constructor’s championship, speculation about the Dutchman’s future in the sport is still rife.
In recent weeks, Verstappen has been linked with a move away, with former F1 star Juan Pablo Montoya tipping him to join Mercedes.
Verstappen appears to be happy with his current situation, considering how much he has accomplished in his comparatively brief career at the top of motorsports.
“I have achieved what I wanted to achieve,” he confirmed.
“So, it’s more about trying to replicate it. Trying to win more, even if I don’t, that’s fine as well.”
He then gave a glimpse into his future, revealing his wish to try other forms of racing outside of F1.
Verstappen added: “I also want to do other kinds of racing outside of Formula 1 eventually and at one point of course I will scale it back a bit.”
It is safe to say that Verstappen will always be regarded as one of the best Formula One drivers of all time, regardless of his future choices.
The Australian Grand Prix, scheduled for March 16 in Melbourne’s Albert Park, will mark the start of the 2025 Formula One season.
Away from the hectic schedule of Formula 1, Max Verstappen has talked about one of his greatest passions.
Verstappen had yet another incredible season, winning his fourth consecutive Formula One world championship.
