The Memphis Tigers secured a hard-fought victory against the Florida Atlantic Owls, winning 78-74 in a highly anticipated rematch from last season’s NCAA Tournament. With this win, Memphis improves to a 20-8 overall record and 9-6 in the American Athletic Conference.

David Jones led all scorers with an impressive 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Nae’Qwan Tomlin contributed 21 points and 8 rebounds, and Jahvon Quinerly added 14 points and 6 assists. On the opposing side, Vladislav Goldin led Florida Atlantic with 22 points and 8 rebounds, supported by Johnell Davis with 20 points and 7 rebounds.

The game was marked by physicality and intensity, with Florida Atlantic attempting to disrupt Memphis’ pregame entrance. Despite the aggressive play, both teams displayed resilience, with the officials allowing for a physical contest.

A notable absence for Memphis was Malcolm Dandridge, ruled out indefinitely by the Memphis Tigers Athletic Department, a development that Coach Penny Hardaway declined to comment on.

The first half saw a close battle between Tomlin and Goldin, with Tomlin scoring 11 points and Goldin responding with 12. Despite trailing by one point at halftime, Memphis controlled key statistical categories, forcing 8 turnovers from FAU.

The second half mirrored the intensity of the first, with memorable plays including a powerful dunk from Tomlin and clutch defense from Memphis to maintain their lead. Despite FAU’s late rally, Memphis’ strong defensive effort ensured they held on for the win, limiting FAU to just 2 of their last 12 field goal attempts.

With this victory secured, Memphis looks ahead to their next challenge as they travel to face the East Carolina Pirates in a conference matchup on Thursday.
