However, Lewis Morgan, the standout forward for the emerging Red Bulls, trails Messi by just two goals. Morgan, who was the team’s leading scorer in 2022, has demonstrated a knack for scoring despite facing injuries last season, making his rise as one of MLS’s top scorers remarkable.
In the initial ten matches of 2024, Morgan has scored seven goals and provided two assists, placing him among the top scorers in the league, trailing only Messi (nine), Cristian Arango of Real Salt Lake (eight), and Christian Benteke of DC United (eight). Morgan’s ability to score goals has been crucial, as exemplified by his goal in the 56th minute against the Vancouver Whitecaps last weekend, which resulted in a 1-1 draw, extending the unbeaten streak of the third-place Red Bulls to six matches.
