Their chances of securing a top-six position seem to be diminishing with each passing week, shifting focus toward the upcoming season. The summer transfer window will offer Sunderland the chance to regroup and enhance their prospects for promotion from the Championship next time around.

However, there’s also the crucial decision of selecting the next manager. With three managers already this season, it’s increasingly vital for Sunderland to make the right appointment.

In an interview with The Northern Echo, the current interim manager discussed his future at the club and in management overall.

“I could opt to step back, but that’s not my inclination,” he remarked. “People ask, ‘Are you enjoying it?’ I can’t say I am, given the four consecutive losses that dent your confidence. Yet, there’s an addictive pressure that comes with the role.”
