The Los Angeles Dodgers are expanding their roster of recognizable names once again. According to a report by Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Dodgers have struck a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays to acquire utility player Cavan Biggio. Biggio, aged 29, was recently designated for assignment by Toronto, prompting this trade rather than a waiver placement. In return, the Blue Jays will receive right-handed reliever Braydon Fisher.

Notably, Cavan Biggio is the son of Craig Biggio, a seven-time MLB All-Star and renowned figure in Houston Astros history, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015. While Cavan hasn’t quite matched his father’s legacy in his own MLB journey, boasting a career batting average of .227 over six seasons, 2024 has proven to be particularly challenging for him. Before his designation for assignment, he was batting .200 with a .614 OPS in 44 games for Toronto.

However, Biggio brings value through his versatility on the field, having played every position except pitcher and catcher. Despite recent struggles, there have been flashes of promise earlier in his career, which the Dodgers, currently leading the NL West, hope he can rekindle even partially.
