During a recent NFL playoff game, trash talk aimed at former Bulldogs star and Philadelphia Eagles rookie Jalen Carter allegedly made reference to the vehicle collision that claimed the lives of a Georgia football player and a team staff member.

The charge first appeared online following offensive lineman Jonathan Feliciano of the San Francisco 49ers’ apology for disparaging a teammate on social media.

The starting center for San Francisco, Feliciano, accused left guard Spencer Burford of failing to block a pass in the Super Bowl, which gave the Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman the opportunity to sack quarterback Brock Purdy and force the 49ers to settle for an overtime field goal. On the next play, Kansas City would score a touchdown, and they would eventually lose the game.

Despite Feliciano’s subsequent social media apology to Buford for the comment, Carter used the occasion to relate his own journeyman center experience from the NFC Championship: “The same guy who talked about my deceased teammate and why I was crying during our game, smh.”

After the Bulldogs’ 2023 national title triumph, Carter drag raced Bulldogs worker Chandler LeCroy and entered a guilty plea to reckless driving. Both LeCroy and Devin Willock, Carter’s teammate, perished in the collision of their car. Her blood-alcohol content was later determined to be over the permitted limit.

In response to Carter’s assertion, Feliciano leveled a counterclaim.

Feliciano posted on X, “Dude told me he was gonna murder me and my kids would never see me again three times because I was laughing at him after getting a flag.” “I think you have a body,” I said. After that, he kept messaging my friends and uploading pictures of my family for weeks.

Carter, a first-round selection who just finished his rookie campaign, and the University of Georgia Athletic Association filed lawsuits in relation to the collision.

Victoria Bowles, a former university recruiting analyst who survived the accident but was ultimately let go by the program due to controversy, filed the lawsuit in July.

The athletic organization is accused of negligence in the filing for permitting a department employee to operate the rented SUV.

Bowles, who was in the SUV when it crashed, is suing for damages, claiming she was left with a “likely permanent disability” and had to pay over $170,000 in medical bills.

Her injuries are listed in the lawsuit as three lumbar fractures, five fractured vertebrae, ten broken ribs, a broken clavicle, teeth fractures and cracks, lacerations to the kidney and liver, a punctured and collapsed lung, bleeding in the abdomen, possible neurological damage, and eye problems.

In March, Carter entered a plea of not guilty to misdemeanor charges of careless driving, and as a result, he was sentenced to 12 months probation and a $1,000 fine. The allegations had no effect on Carter’s draft standing, and the NFC champion Eagles selected him ninth overall.

However, the lawsuit claims that Carter fled the scene illegally without speaking to the authorities or providing assistance to collision victims who were either seriously injured, dead, or in critical condition. Rather, Carter swiftly left, according to the lawsuit, ostensibly to save himself from accusations or bad press.
