NEWS: No trophies since Wimbledon don’t worry me, says Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz, the second-ranked player in the world, claims he is not concerned about not having won a championship since Wimbledon in July.
The 20-year-old became the youngest men’s world number one in history last year and also won the US Open.
The Spaniard does, however, feel like a marked man as he gets ready to start the defence of his Indian Wells title.
“A lot of players put a target on my back and every time I face them, they show their best level,” Alcaraz stated.

“A lot of expectation and noises behind me probably is difficult to deal with, but I try not to think about it,” he remarked in an interview with BBC Sport. I make a constant effort to be by myself and avoid being around all of that. However, it can be challenging at times—many tournament matches take place in public—so I would say that’s the hardest thing.
Murray wins the Indian Wells second round with ease.
Nadal, a three-time champion, withdraws from Indian Wells
After receiving a bye in the first round, Alcaraz will face Italian world no. 40 Matteo Arnaldi on Friday at Indian Wells.

Victory over Daniil Medvedev in last year’s final was one of six titles he won in the first seven months of the year.

And, even though Alcaraz reached a final, three semi-finals and one other quarter-final in the closing months of 2023, he was not able to lift another trophy.

“After Wimbledon I did a pretty good American swing – final in Cincinnati, semi-finals in US Open – that’s good results, honestly,” he said.

“But after that I was struggling a little with my tennis, my joy. It doesn’t stress me so much not having titles or finals.”

This year began with a quarter-final defeat to Alexander Zverev at the Australian Open and he then rolled an ankle in the second point of his first match in Rio last month.

Alcaraz chose to withdraw after just two games, so he will be focusing on proving to himself that he is healthy enough to compete in the winners’ circle again at Indian Wells.
