Cardiff City midfielder Ebou Adams is set to leave south Wales for Derby County on loan, according to information from WalesOnline. The decision comes as Cardiff has an abundance of midfielders, with Adams being among those listed for potential loan moves during the January transfer window. Despite being listed alongside Romaine Sawyers and Andy Rinomhota, Adams has garnered the most interest for his signature.

The 28-year-old has faced challenges since joining Cardiff in 2022 as a free agent from Forest Green Rovers. In his debut season, he experienced setbacks due to a pectoral muscle tear and a subsequent knee operation, which kept him sidelined throughout the entire year.

This season, Adams has found himself behind Joe Ralls, Ryan Wintle, and Manolis Siopis in manager Erol Bulut’s midfield hierarchy. Recognizing the need for changes in the midfield, the manager has permitted Adams to go out on loan.

Adams recently returned from the Africa Cup of Nations, where Gambia did not advance to the knockout stages. He played one game but was sent off in Gambia’s opening match against Senegal two weeks ago.

Further loan departures are anticipated before the deadline, including players like Xavier Benjamin and Jake Dennis. Additionally, 19-year-old Cardiff striker James Crole has departed for Queen’s Park on loan. Although he made his debut this season in the Carabao Cup against Blackburn Rovers, a previous loan stint at Torquay was hampered by injury. Cardiff hopes that testing him at the senior level in the Scottish Championship will contribute to his development.
