Exciting news for Cardiff City as Joshua Wilson-Esbrand officially joins the team on loan from Manchester City until the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, pending international clearance. The 21-year-old player, known for his versatility across various positions, began his football journey in the youth ranks of West Ham United before joining Manchester City in 2019. Wilson-Esbrand marked his professional debut in a Carabao Cup match against Wycombe Wanderers in September 2021.
Having spent the previous year on loan with Coventry City, contributing to their ascent into Play-Offs contention with appearances in 14 Championship matches, Wilson-Esbrand continued his development with a loan stint at Stade Reims in the first half of the current season. During his time in Ligue 1, he showcased his skills by scoring once and providing an assist in eleven matches. Additionally, he made his debut for the England U21 team at the international level.
Expressing his enthusiasm after completing the loan move, Wilson-Esbrand conveyed his privilege to join Cardiff City, expressing his eagerness to contribute to the team’s success. His focus is on efficiency in the final third and a desire to play regularly, aiming to help the team progress as far as possible.
Cardiff City’s manager, Erol Bulut, highlighted Wilson-Esbrand’s background at Manchester City and his valuable experiences on loan at Reims and Coventry City. Bulut emphasized the player’s positive attributes, especially in offensive actions, ball control, and crossing ability. Acknowledging Wilson-Esbrand’s flexibility in playing various positions, including full-back, wing-back, winger, and even as a number 8, Bulut sees him as a valuable addition to the squad, providing essential flexibility and contributing positively to the team’s playing style.
