Even though Carlos Alcaraz said he was healthy enough to compete in the next Indian Wells Open, how serious is his ankle ailment really?

Alcaraz’s latest ankle injury in the Rio Open appeared to be the worst we’ve ever seen. He sustained an ankle roll while playing against Thiago Monteiro, a native player, which clearly hurt him.

He would attempt to play again later, but it was clear he wouldn’t be able to, so he ended the game. At first, it was pretty awful, and his Sunshine Double raised doubts, but Alcaraz soon calmed everyone down by claiming that it wasn’t as dreadful as it first appeared.

When he completed the exams in Rio de Janeiro, the results appeared to be quite promising. He will play Rafael Nadal in the Netflix Slam even before the Indian Wells Open, so he should be ready.

Does that imply that all is well? It should, but there was also input from a subject matter expert. Italian sports medicine expert Angelo Bertelli was interviewed by Tuttosport and provided an analysis of the injury.

Given that we’re discussing days off, I don’t believe this is a second-degree injury because if it were, he would have also needed to miss Indian Wells and Miami. Instead, I saw the injury and the ankle swelled right away, which is a sign of an effusion. It surely helps that the sportsmen we are discussing have strong, trained muscles.”

Alcaraz believes he should be alright based on his decisions to play at Indian Wells. The doctor claims that although the Spaniard initially claimed that it was judged a grade 2, it is not feasible because he would not have been playing at those events if that were the true.

As soon as the Spanish player on the court, we’ll undoubtedly find out because his elite quality is so evident.
